We inspect and assess bridges and civil infrastructure across Victoria, following the Austroads guidelines, the VicRoads Road Structures Inspection Manual (RSIM) and AS 5100.
Inspection levels
Level 1 routine maintenance inspections
Visual checks of the road surface, expansion joints, barriers, waterway clearance and any urgent safety issues.
Level 2 condition inspections
Element by element condition ratings, states 1 to 4, for substructures, piers, abutments, bearings, girders, decks, wingwalls and headstocks.
Level 3 structural evaluations
AS 5100.7 load rating, concrete coring, carbonation and chloride testing, half-cell potential mapping and finite element analysis.
Other assets
Culverts, retaining walls, sign gantries, footbridges, tunnels, jetties and noise walls.
Defects we diagnose
Concrete spalling, reinforcement corrosion, alkali-silica reaction, delamination, bearing wear, scour and timber decay.
Repairs and maintenance planning
We specify repairs such as cathodic protection, CFRP strengthening and bearing replacement, and help asset owners set priorities and budgets for maintenance.
Common questions about bridge and infrastructure inspection
What is the difference between Level 1, 2 and 3 inspections?
Level 1 is a routine visual check for safety and maintenance issues. Level 2 rates the condition of each structural element on a scale of 1 to 4. Level 3 is a detailed engineering evaluation, such as a load rating or testing to find the cause of a defect.
Do you load rate bridges for heavy vehicles?
Yes. We assess load capacity to AS 5100.7 and issue load rating certificates for heavy vehicle access.
Who do you inspect for?
Councils, road and rail authorities, asset managers and private owners of bridges, culverts and other civil structures.
