We design and inspect timber-framed homes, custom architectural houses, townhouses and renovations to AS 1684 and AS 2870, from roof framing and lintels to bracing and footings.

What we design

  • Timber framing to AS 1684, AS 1720 and NCC Volume Two
  • Roof trusses, beams and lintels in LVL, glulam and steel flitch beams
  • Bracing and tie-down schedules for wind classifications N1 to N4 and C1 to C3
  • Slabs and footings to AS 2870
  • Load-bearing wall removal and beam sizing for renovations
  • Decks, pergolas, verandahs, cantilevers and timber retaining walls

Stage inspections

We inspect footings before the pour and framing before plaster, and send the reports to your building surveyor. At the framing stage we check:

  • Lintel and beam bearing on studs
  • Load paths under girder trusses and point loads
  • Notches and holes cut by plumbers and electricians
  • Tie-down hardware, nailing and bracing

Common questions about timber and residential engineering

Do you provide framing stage inspections?

Yes. We carry out pre-pour footing and pre-plaster framing inspections and issue Regulation 126 inspection certificates for your building surveyor.

Do I need an engineer to remove a wall?

If the wall carries load from the roof or a floor above, yes. We work out what the wall supports and design a beam and posts to carry that load. A building permit is usually needed for this work.

Can you work from my architect's drawings?

Yes. We work from architectural drawings in PDF or CAD format and coordinate any changes with your designer.
